In Retrospect - The Beginning of Purpose at ENZ
Hello again!
This is Edz and I am currently working as an Associate Director for the Service Processing Department at ENZ Education Consultancy Services (or simply ENZ). Before reaching this milestone, I was also once at the bottom of the corporate ladder eager to navigate the journey of a working adult. I started at ENZ as a Junior Consultant, assisting clients with their Australian student visa applications. This role is very dear to me because it was where I found the most fulfillment in my career - helping aspiring Filipinos turn their Aussie dreams into reality.
I am sure you can agree with me that every 'first' is memorable. From your first job, first paycheck purchase, first travel, and so many more first.
In my industry, every consultant remembers their first client - the one who unknowingly shapes their confidence, reinforces their purpose, and becomes the first success story etched into their career. For me, that client was Ms. Renida Soriano, now a professional chef thriving in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
I remember meeting her around July of 2017, at SM Megamall. Back then, we didn't have an office yet in the capital region, so mall meet-ups were the norm. She was somewhat reserved, quiet, and visibly cautious. She wasn't much of a talker, more of a listener, and I understood why. She had just graduated, standing at a crossroads between comfort and the unknown.
As we went through the consultation, I was impressed to learn that she was an alumna of Far Eastern University, one of the most prestigious schools in the Philippines. I could see her willingness then, but I also sensed her uncertainty. She didn't sign up right away. It took two months of convincing and constant follow-ups before she officially engaged with our services in September of 2017.
Once she made the decision, everything fell into place effortlessly. Ms. Renida was incredibly compliant and easy to work with, making the entire process smooth. In just two months, we secured her admission, completed her enrollment, and lodged her application in November 2017. Then, in the first week of December, the moment we had been waiting for arrived - her visa was granted.
I still recall how happy I was when I broke the news to her. She was the first-ever client I handled from a start-to-end process, the first person who put her trust in me despite not knowing my credentials. It was a fulfilling moment for both of us - she was about to begin her new life in Australia, and I had just helped turn someone's dream into reality for the first time.
In January 2018, she boarded her flight to Australia, ready to start her studies. A year later, in 2019, I had the pleasure of seeing her again at our Year-End Party in Australia. She had transformed - confident, thriving, and no longer the shy girl I met two years before. She talked more, laughed more, and carried herself with the assurance of someone who had found her place in the world.
Fast forward to 2025, when I reached out to share this story with her, she graciously gave her consent. She said it felt like everything flashed back to the beginning of her journey and thanked me for the kind words.
Her journey, from a reserved fresh graduate to a successful chef in Australia, is a testament to the power of taking that first step, of embracing the unknown, and of trusting the process.
And as for me? She will always be the first client who trusted me. And for that, I'll always be grateful.
